Today we started the teachings. I got up and had breakfast with my host family. Turns out oddly enough that the mother of the son there is from Eastern Tibet, and her sisters live in Chicago. One of whom I know of from the Tibetan Alliance Center. Strange. . .
The family members I am staying with are related to HH Chetsang Rinpoche and I am staying next door to one of his sister's. I ventured over to the teachings and saw Meghan and Virgina. The only unfortunate thing was that they didn't receive all of the headsets that they were supposed to for the translation. So I had to get help from a group of Buddhist practitioners from Estonia, to give me a basic understanding. Hopefully we will have more tomorrow.
It is a beautiful place in the mountains. The teachings are outside under white canopies adorned with Tibetan symbols and marigolds strewn along the sidewalks and hanging down from overhead. It was quite a special day today, and am looking forward to the rest of the time here.
I had the opportunity to catch up with Meghan today that shared her stories and photographs from Lapchi on her pilgrimmage there with HE Garchen Rinpoche and others. Turned out she may have gotten Typhoid fever and mono after she returned. We walked to the Library, about 20 minutes from where I am staying and hung out there. Not a place to walk to alone at night. It is amazing to see the poor throughout the area.
I will attempt to post some photos in the next few days. I am currently at an internet site since I haven't been able to get onto a wireless signal surprise surprise. . .
Should be getting a sim card for india tonight. Many more stories to come.
Signing off for now.

Hi Heather,
Finally had a little time to look at your blog and read your entries! I enjoyed seeing your photos.
It sounds like your arrival was a little stressful with feeling sick. I hope that you have adjusted to the food by now. You did take your antibiotics with you, right???
I was sorry to hear about Meghan getting sick after her trip to Lapshi. That sounds rough.
I was surprised to see the photo of Jigme without his robes and to hear he has a girlfriend. Is that her in the photo? She is beautiful...
I've been so busy here. Corey's retrospective opens at the Evanston Art Center the middle of January, so we are busy framing work, etc. He just got the catalogue on Friday. It is really nice.
Take care, and looking forward to more postings...
XO
Kathie
